Rachel Mayfield began her singing and writing career in the 1990’s, fronting indie/rock band ‘Delicious Monster’. The band released five EP’s and one album to critical acclaim in the alternative music press, and made 'Single of the Week' in both NME and Melody Maker. They were named ‘Best Band in the World’ by Caitlin Moran of The Times newspaper, and voted favourites of Suede and the Boo Radleys, going on to tour extensively with these and other alternative rock bands of the era, including Dodgy, The Cranberries and Belly.
They had two top ten indie hits after being championed by John Peel and Mark Radcliffe of BBC Radio One, and featured regularly on MTV. The band then suddenly split.
