I couldn't agree more, coming from a design background and being a software developer. Too often I see developers who are solely focused on specific "features" rather than realizing that they are quite literally crafting an experience for a user (that is, unless you are a solely focused on creating developer tools for *nix command line).
Always remember that users have to make sense of the data! It has to be comfortable to them, consumable, and attractive. I believe that developers/companies who understand this concept will always be more successful than those who ignore it.
