For the price, Acorn is brilliant.
I use it when I can, the interface is superb and I'd always rather load it in a couple seconds when I need to make a quick change to a game asset's texture, or changes on the fly.
For the more involved stuff I use gimp.
It's great to have the likes of Acorn and Pixelmator on the Mac.
