Architecture Field in Finder Info

Did this sneak in with 10.4.3, or has this been around for a bit longer? Take a look at the screenshot:

I guess this is a good thing, though I was a bit suprised to see it visible at this stage.

New in a recent update. I think 10.4.2 though.

It was added in 10.4.3. It doesn't show up for binaries other than applications though (i.e. screen savers or preference panes).

Definitely 10.4.3.

Nifty! I just noticed that my copy of TextMate shows both PowerPC and Intel in the Architecture field.

I noticed that but thought it was specific to the App I was looking at…

Actually, it was *both* in 10.4.3 and before that. The feature first appeared in the Intel version of OS X that shipped with the Developer Transition Kits. PowerPC Macs got it with the update to 10.4.3.

Like you were saying about all things old being new again in a previous article... NEXTSTEP 3.1 introduced this field into the Workspace.app inspector when it went multi-platform.

Of course the Workspace is NKA (Now Known As) the Finder, and the inspector is combined into the viewer window whereas previously it was in a separate window.

This was 1993. And if you poke around the Mach headers from back then, you'll find reference to numerous architectures.
