What Are the 'Fun' New Products?

Apple is holding a media event next Tuesday, Feb 28. The question is, what are they announcing? The analyst that CNET quotes suggests that it's either a 17" MacBook or an Intel-based iBook.

I find both of these a bit unlikely. Apple appears to be working hard at the moment just to keep up with demand for the existing MacBook and Intel-based iMac. I don't think they're ready to launch another item on the menu just yet.

So what's 'fun'? An obvious choice would be something related to entertainment, such as a media-center-set-top-mac-mini-whatever thing. Another possibility is a new iPod revision. This seems more likely than a new portable, but still a bit soon.

My hope is that we'll see an Apple-branded phone along with a set of related mobile services. There has been speculation about this for ages, and frankly, most phones and carriers are incredibly disappointing by the standards us Mac OS X and iPod folks are used to. I'd also really like to see a service that caters well to Mac customers.

This would be ideal timing for me as I'm just about ready to start looking for a new mobile provider and handset.

A new iPod for Go Red http://www.goredforwomen.org/ and accessories sounds more likely.. its all about the music.

If it is a phone tied into associated services chances are it won't be much fun for anyone outside of the states...

I think it is probably a video Airport Express (with maybe a compatible iPod dock to beam video over your network). Also, I think they will Intellify the mini and put some more media options in it (probably won't be the dvr people are hoping for).

hmmm, fun?

When I think of fun and Apple a here's a list of things that pop into my head:

iPod,
Front Row,
Photobooth,
Apple software, especially games.

I love the 1 week build up to Apple events. *sigh*

It's Intel-based iBooks and Mac minis. Someone I know who works for an Apple Reseller says they can't get any more (PPC) iBooks or minis from Apple, which is a big indicator that they're going to be rolling out the Intel ones very shortly.

Well, typically we really get the short end of the stick when it comes to mobile phones and services, so I don't feel bad about getting the good stuff for once. :)

Just read it to yourself with the "Mac OS X and iPod folks" phrase removed if you ever forget which word to use. Yes, I'm incredibly anal.

Of course, then I went and used the wrong italics tags.

It's going to be minis and ibooks.
Why else would they ditch the low end chip (1.66 GHz Core Duo) and it's time for the 1.66 GHz Core Solo chips to debut.

Mark my words...
