Nintendo DS Lite

This is a very short review. The DS Lite has been covered in ridiculous detail on other sites, I just wanted to share the personal experience of upgrading from a first-gen DS to a Lite.

There are reviews out there that say it's not worth it to get a DS Lite if you already have the first DS. Don't listen to them.

The DS Lite gives you an entirely different experience. The device itself is more appealing, yes. Better battery life, nicer to look at, feels great. But the real point is that the screen is gorgeous.

To make this totally clear, I started the New Super Mario game over, from the beginning, just so I could see the game the way it was meant to be seen. There really are colors that you don't even know are there until you see them on a DS Lite. Do not waste any more time playing your games on the first generation screen if you can help it.

This little gizmo is my favorite game device ever. That may change once the Wii comes out, though.

Thanks for the insight. We recently got my son an original DS for a lengthy plane ride. I was ridiculously impressed with the ease with which we joined a game with a couple other kids on the same plane.

Since then, I've been debating about getting a DS Lite. You just sealed the deal for me. Think I'll pick up Lego Star Wars II while I'm at it...

You're quite correct about the gorgeous screen revealing details never before seen.  There were colors in Animal Crossing that I never knew were there before.

It's also nicer to have the power/battery indicator light between the two screens where the orange indicator will be more easily seen.  Most DS games I've played won't pop up a dialog warning you that the battery is low (as Animal Crossing does), so you have to rely on that orange light to make sure you don't lose power in the middle of a game before you've saved your status.
