Filming for 1999 CNN Special

One of the more bizarre moments of my life was having a production crew for CNN setup camp in my mom's house. Originally, I was going to be interviewed as a support for another company, but they were in their pre-IPO quiet period. They decided to interview me and my co-worker about our web development startup instead.

This was back in 1999, so not everyone had a web company. The pictures show me at nineteen. If memory serves, MacNN was our main client at the time. The Maxify logo only flashed for an instant, but it was incredible watching the web logs go bananas when the show actually aired.

This experience really changed the way I see television segments. The finished product you see on TV may seem like it flows naturally, but it's the result of a lot of dicing and splicing. The people being interviewed really have no idea how they're going to come across.

I'm actually afraid to go back and watch the tape because it would probably be incredibly embarrassing now.

So, it was 1999 and you had - gasp - a Performa still in use (or is that the PM7100)? Talk about maximizing your investment!

I think it was a Performa 6300-ish thing.

Well, weren't you handsome :P

Ah, good old days. Back then you could knock up a bad HTML page in Claris Homepage, stuff it with animated gifs and charge $100 for it. And people were like "Ohh! I've got a webpage!".
